What is the Directory of New Zealand Libraries ?

The Directory of New Zealand Libraries contains contact and other information about every library in New Zealand.

Definition of Terms used within this website

Interloans Suspension Status : Te Puna Interloan users have the ability in that system to signify that they are unavailable to perform interloans at the current time.

IBS Member : The National Library of New Zealand operates the Interloan Billing System on behalf of the JSCI (Joint Standing Committee for Interloan).  Not every library that performs interloans is part of the IBS scheme.  If a library is not an IBS member then manual invoices must be raised by the supplying library to the requesting library.

Te Puna Interloan : This field indicates that the library is a member of the National Library Te Puna Interloan service and uses that system to perform interloans

NZ Interloan Scheme : This indicates that the library is willing to accept and/or supply interloan requests

My Library is not listed. What do I do ?

Only parent libraries are listed in the directory. In many larger New Zealand cities, there are community libraries in suburbs and these are not included in the Directory.

If you believe your library should be included then Contact the Digital Solutions team at the National Library of New Zealand

What is Trans Tasman Interlending ?

Trans Tasman Interlending allows Te Puna Interloan customers and Libraries Australia Document Delivery customers to seamlessly request from and supply to one another. Both the National Library of New Zealand and the National Library of Australia expect libraries to seek resources from within their own country first, using Trans-Tasman Interlending only when a resource is not available within the home country. If you are a Charter library, it is possible that you will receive requests from Australian libraries if the item cannot be supplied by an Australia library. To ensure that Australian Libraries use Australian resources first, your library will need to set an international interloan fee of not less than $14.00 for items you supply. Australian libraries will charge a minimum fee of A$12.00, the price endorsed by Libraries Australia Document Delivery for standard international interloan transactions.

The National Library of New Zealand provides the invoicing and payments service for Trans Tasman Interlending.

If you are a member of Te Puna Interloan, you automatically have access to Trans Tasman Interlending.

For more information see: http://subscribers.natlib.govt.nz/support/Trans_Tasman_Interlending.html

To search for Australian symbols and library details, see the Australian Interlibrary Resource Sharing Directory (ILRS) at: http://www.nla.gov.au/apps/ilrs

What's my Te Puna ID and Password ?

For librarian users to update their library’s details, you will need to know your library’s Te Puna User ID and password.  If you are an authorised person within your library to make changes to the details stored in the Directory, and you don’t know your ID then please contact Te Puna support at the National Library at the address above.
